Cable, Connectors & Trunking
Wire up, tidy and protect electrics with cable, clips and trunking from Securlec, Doncaster Cable, Dietzel Univolt, PX, Masterplug and Dencon. The range includes twin and earth cable, flex cable in 2 core and 3 core, trunking and trunking clips, insulation tape, terminal strips and reversible connectors.
Cable size depends on the circuit. Flat flex cable and round flex cable such as 3 core flex cable are used for flexible connections to appliances, while white twin and earth cable runs in walls for lights and sockets. A 10 mm twin and earth cable is a heavy gauge for high load circuits, and 0.75mm flex suits low power items. Check the colour and conductor size, and match the cable to the current it will carry.
Cable clips hold cable neatly along walls: white cable clips, round cable clips and flat cable clips are chosen by the cable diameter, in sizes from 5mm to 8mm. Mini trunking such as 16 x 16mm hides cables on surfaces. Electrical work in homes is notifiable in some cases, so use a qualified electrician for fixed wiring, consumer unit work or anything you are unsure about.

How to choose cable, connectors and trunking
Choose the right size cable and a tidy way to route it.
| Product | Best for | Things to know |
|---|---|---|

| Flex | Appliances, lamps and pendants | Match the core count and current rating |
| Connectors and junction boxes | Joining cables safely | Use enclosures; must be accessible or maintenance-free |
| Cable clips | Fixing cable along walls and skirting | Match the clip to the cable size |

Cable, Connectors & Trunking: frequently asked questions
What is twin and earth cable?
It is flat cable with live and neutral conductors plus a bare earth wire, used for fixed wiring in homes. It should be installed to current regulations.
What does 3 core flex cable mean?
Three core cable has live, neutral and earth conductors inside. It is used for earthed appliances and extension leads.
How do I choose cable clips?
Match the clip to the cable shape and width, such as round or flat. Fix them at regular intervals along the run.
What size trunking do I need?
Pick trunking with enough internal space for all the cables, with room to spare. Mini trunking suits one or two cables.
Can I do electrical wiring myself?
Fixed wiring should follow Part P of the Building Regulations, and some work must be done or certified by a qualified electrician. If unsure, hire one.
