Insulation & Draught Proofing
Keep the heat in and the cold out with a selection of draught proofing and insulation. The range covers a door draught excluder in brush styles, self-adhesive draught excluder strips, window draught seal kits, letterbox brushes, cavity closers, pipe wrap for 15mm pipe and foil insulation, from Woodside, Stormguard, Superfoil, Davant and Thermawrap.
Start by finding where air is getting in. Gaps around door frames and window sashes suit a door draught seal or window draught excluder; a brush draught excluder works well across the bottom of an internal or external door; and a white draught excluder looks neat on uPVC. A letterbox draught excluder with cover stops wind coming through the flap. Self-adhesive strips are easy to cut to size.
Measure the length and the width of the gap before buying, and choose a seal thick enough to fill it without stopping the door closing. Clean and dry the surface so the adhesive holds. Pipe wrap helps protect exposed pipes against freezing and heat loss. Do not block ventilation grilles or fix draught proofing over air bricks, as rooms with fires and boilers need airflow.

How to choose insulation and draught proofing
Match the product to where the heat is escaping.
| Type | Best for | Things to know |
|---|---|---|
| Self-adhesive foam strip | Gaps around doors and opening windows | Clean and dry the frame before fitting |
| Brush or rubber door seals | Gaps under and around external doors | Measure the gap so the door still closes |
| Letter box and keyhole covers | Draughts through front door openings | Check the letter plate size first |
| Pipe lagging | Hot and cold pipes in lofts and garages | Match the inside diameter to the pipe size |
| Loft insulation rolls | Topping up insulation between joists | Wear gloves, a mask and eye protection |
Insulation & Draught Proofing: frequently asked questions
How do I choose a door draught excluder?
Measure the gap under or around the door. Brush types suit uneven floors, while foam and rubber strips suit tight gaps.
Does window draught proofing really help?
It reduces air leaks around the opening sash, which can make rooms feel warmer. It works best with sound, well fitted windows.
How do I fit self adhesive draught seals?
Clean and dry the frame, cut to length and press firmly along the edge. Avoid applying in very cold weather.
What does pipe wrap do?
Pipe wrap insulates hot and cold pipes, reducing heat loss and helping prevent freezing. Choose the size to match the pipe diameter.
Should I draught proof every room?
Not completely. Rooms with open fires, gas appliances or damp problems need proper ventilation, so keep vents clear.
