Hearth & Home

Fireside basics and garden shovels sit together in this Hearth & Home collection. It covers a home basket for logs and kindling, a coal shovel, a garden shovel, a knitted hot water bottle and further practical items for the fireplace and shed.

Black japanned coal shovels in 4 inch and black metal shovels at 6 inch suit fireplaces and stoves, while the HD galvanised shovel with a wooden handle in 9 inch is made for heavier garden jobs. Log and coal baskets in different shapes keep fuel tidy, and a knitted 2L long hot water bottle gives cosy warmth for cold nights.

Pick a basket that fits the space near the fire, leaving room to move safely. Choose a shovel width for the task, narrower for ash and wider for moving soil. Allow ash to cool fully before disposal, and use metal containers rather than plastic. Check hot water bottles for wear and fill with hot, not boiling, water.
