Smiths Locks

Smiths Locks makes locking hardware for doors, windows, gates and storage. This range includes a euro cylinder lock in brass and nickel, euro mortice lock cylinders, Snap Safe cylinders, mortice key blanks, aluminium padlocks and digit keysafes in medium and large sizes.

A euro cylinder is the barrel that sits in a uPVC, composite or timber door lock, and it must be the right length. Measure from the centre screw to each end, as sizes are given as two numbers such as 40 x 60mm or 35 x 35mm. A Snap Safe cylinder is made to break in a controlled way if forced, rather than leaving the lock in a weakened state. A BS 1 star cylinder is a safer upgrade than an unmarked one.

A mortice lock fits into a cut out in a timber door and needs the right backset and a matching key. For spare keys and tradespeople, a lock safe, key lock safe or digit keysafe stores keys outside the house. A brass lock suits traditional doors and nickel gives a silver look. Replace old cylinders if keys have been lost, and fit all locks according to the instructions.
