These square-section tree stakes are made from birch hardwood, 25mm thick and 1.5m long, and pointed at one end. The 1.5m size is a sensible middle length to help young trees establish.

Good to know
Hardwood stakes are driven in before planting so you do not spear the roots. A proper tree tie keeps the trunk off the wood and lets it move a little.
How to use
- Drive the stake in first, so you do not damage roots later.
- Set the tree next to it.
- Use a proper tree tie rather than string.
- Loosen the tie as the trunk grows.
