Adhesives, Fillers & Sealants: frequently asked questions
What is the difference between caulk and silicone?
Caulk is a flexible, paintable filler for dry interior gaps such as skirting boards. Silicone stays flexible and waterproof for wet areas like baths and showers, but most silicone cannot be painted.
How do I reseal a bath?
Remove all old sealant, clean and dry the joint, then fill the bath with water before applying new sanitary silicone. Filling it first stops the bead cracking when the bath is used.
Can grab adhesive replace screws?
For lightweight trims and panels it often can, but heavy items such as shelves, cabinets or anything that bears load should be mechanically fixed. Always check the weight rating on the cartridge.
How long does filler take to dry before painting?
Thin layers of ready-mixed filler may be dry in a few hours, while deep repairs can take overnight. Check the label and make sure it is fully dry and sanded before painting.
Can I return an opened sealant tube?
No, opened sealants and adhesives cannot be returned. Unused, unopened items can be returned within 14 days.
