Protecting outdoor surfaces is easier with the right finish, and this range covers fences, decking, sheds and masonry. Choose a Ronseal fence paint or Cuprinol fence paint for timber panels, a Ronseal decking paint or Cuprinol decking paint for boards, or exterior masonry paint from Sandtex and Dulux for walls.
Garden fence paint comes as treatments such as Fence Life Plus and as colour paints, with satin and gloss exterior options from Johnstone's and Bedec. Many products come as a decking paint 5l tin or a Ronseal decking paint 5l size, with smaller tins for touch-ups and colour matching. Stains, oils and a Cuprinol exterior paint complete the choice.
Pick the product for the surface first, since a fence treatment, a deck paint and a masonry paint are formulated differently. Clean and dry the surface, remove loose finish, and apply in dry weather with no rain forecast for a day or so. Use the tin coverage to work out how many litres a large fence needs.

What is the difference between fence paint and decking paint?
Decking paint is made to cope with foot traffic and wear, while fence paint is made for vertical timber. Use each on its intended surface.
Can I paint a fence in the rain?
It is best to paint dry timber in dry conditions, and avoid painting just before rain or heavy dew.
How much fence paint do I need for a garden fence?
Measure the length and height of the fence, double it if you paint both sides, and compare against the coverage on the tin.
Is exterior masonry paint suitable for brick?
Exterior masonry paint is designed for brick, render and similar surfaces. Check the product label for the surfaces it suits.
Do I need to prepare decking before painting?
Yes. Clean off dirt and algae, let the boards dry and sand or remove flaking finish for a lasting result.
